On Asthma
Asthma is a serious condition that can be life-threatening. While there is currently no cure, effective management is possible through proper treatment and care.
According to the 2024 Asthma Capitals Report, Lakeland, FL, was ranked 12th among the top 20 most challenging cities for people living with asthma in the United States. Five of the top 20 cities listed in the report are located in the Southeastern region, including two in South Carolina. The report identified poverty as a consistent risk factor for asthma, while also highlighting that medication use plays a significant role.
The Young Adult Health Program can help address this issue if it is better understood.
