Eligibility Criteria
This program was developed for scientists with an interest in behavioral treatment development to improve health behaviors. While applied behavioral and social scientists are the focus, basic scientists and methods experts are also able to participated and should consider applying if interested. Any post-graduate investigator (doctoral or terminal degree received) in the medical, behavioral, social, and statistical/methodology sciences who has a demonstrated pre-existing interest in contributing to investigator teams in developing and testing behavioral treatments is eligible to apply to this course. If you meet the eligibility criteria and you would like to apply to the ORBIT Institute, you will be asked to:
- Complete the application form in its entirety
- Upload your most up-to-date CV
- Upload a personal statement (2,000 words max) including:
- Your current and future intervention research interests and how they address an important clinical or public health problem.
- How participating in this program will help you to use the revised ORBIT model to advance your own research.
- How this program may facilitate and achieve your short-term career goals.
- Your past experience with intervention development and testing.
- Current human subjects training certificate (e.g. CITI certificate)
- Letter(s) of Recommendation (optional)
- NIH Biosketch (optional)
Mandatory Requirements for Participation
In the past, only 25 applications were accepted each cohort (2023 - 2026). ORBIT Alumni were required to:
- Attend the in-person ORBIT Institute Workshop in Tallahassee, FL (attending in-person is mandatory and non-negotiable).
- Attend bi-weekly training webinars (via Zoom).
- Complete related activities, including all program evaluation components.
- Schedule and complete a 1:1 consultation before the end of the program's activities.

In the past, applicants were contacted via email (orbit.institute@med.fsu.edu) to inform them of the decision of their application. It is strongly recommended to add the ORBIT email address to contact list(s) and/or check spam folders. Upon notification of admission, onboarding begins immediately after the applicant accepts their admission the Institute.
