Karen MacDonell
Associate Professor, Adolescent and Emerging Adult Health Justice Program

Dr. Karen MacDonell is a developmental psychologist and Associate Professor at Florida State University College of Medicine.  She is a faculty member in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine and affiliated faculty in the Center for Translational Behavioral Science (CTBScience).  Dr. MacDonell has multiple NIH-funded projects to develop, test, and implement behavioral interventions to improve illness management and reduce health disparities in vulnerable populations.  Her current work primarily includes racial/ethnic and/or sexual and gender minority adolescents and young adults with asthma or HIV.  She utilizes mHealth approaches, using technology for both assessment and intervention delivery, and has multiple collaborations with research teams across the country and internationally.

Dr. MacDonell received her PhD in Developmental Psychology from Loyola University Chicago and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Psychology with an emphasis in methodology and trial design at Wayne State University.  Prior to joining FSU, Dr. MacDonell was faculty at Wayne State University in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences and the Department of Pediatrics.
